چکیده

Assuring end-to-end QoS in enterprise distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) systems is hard due to the heterogeneity and transient behavior of communication networks, the lack of integrated mechanisms that schedule communication and computing resources holistically, and the scalability limits of IP multicast in wide-area networks (WANs). This paper makes three contributions to research on overcoming these problems in the context of enterprise DRE systems that use the OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS) quality-ofservice (QoS)-enabled publish/subscribe (pub/sub) middleware over WANs. First, it codifies the limitations of conventional DDS implementations deployed over WANs. Second, it describes a middleware component called Proxy DDS that bridges multiple, isolated DDS domains deployed over WANs. Third, it describes the NetQSIP framework that combines multi-layer, standards-based technologies including the OMG-DDS, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and IP DiffServ to support end-to-end QoS in a WAN and shield pub/sub applications from tedious and error-prone details of network QoS mechanisms. The results of experiments using Proxy DDS and NetQSIP show how combining DDS with SIP in DiffServ networks significantly improves dynamic resource reservation in WANs and provides effective end-to-end QoS management.

A SIP-Based Network QoS Provisioning Framework for Cloud-Hosted DDS Applications

The growing trend towards running publish/subscribe (pub/sub)-based distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) systems in cloud environments motivates the need to achieve end-to-end quality-of-service (QoS) over wide-area networks (WANs). The OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a data-centric middleware that provides fast, scalable and predictable distribution of real-time critical data. The D...

Poster: SIP-based QoS Support and Session Management for DDS-based Distributed Real-time and Embedded Systems

End-to-end quality-of-service (QoS) support in middleware is critical to achieve publish/subscribe (pub/sub)-based distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) systems. This poster describes ongoing work on supporting QoS properties over wide area networks within the OMG’s Data Distribution Service (DDS) by leveraging the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Session Description Protocol (SDP).

Novel Methods For Determining QoS Parameters and Thresholds in End User's Service Level Agreement

Service level agreement (SLA) is a powerful tool to formalize the negotiation and agreement between the service provider and service seeker with the scope of service quality characteristics, compensations and tariffs. The service quality description is the main part of a SLA which can be characterized by the use of suitable and feasible quality of service (QoS) parameters. Determining suitable ...

Extending End-to-End QoS to WiFi based WLAN

requirements on the network traffic compared to the traditional interactive and background applications. IEEE standard 802.11e addresses these QoS requirements in a WiFi based WLAN. It provides enhancements to the MAC layer protocol for supporting both prioritized and parameterized traffic between a QSTA and a QAP. To address the end-to-end QoS needs, the link level QoS supported by 802.11e sta...

Application-Layer QoS Interdomain Signalling with SIP Protocol

The QoS signalling across multiple domains is an open issue: in this paper we propose a QoS interdomain signalling solution for SIP-based multimedia sessions. Our solution refers to a signalling architecture proposed by ETSI in which the interdomain QoS signalling flows on the application layer along with the session signalling. In our solution we extend the precondition set attributes defined ...
